Board Friends — Privacy Policy

Board Friends (“the App”) is operated by Christopher Rogers (“I,” “me,” or “my”). This Privacy Policy explains what information the App collects, how it is used, and your choices regarding your data.
By creating an account or using Board Friends, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
Information I Collect
Information You Provide
When you create an account or use the App, you may provide the following:
- Email address — used for account creation, authentication, and communication about your account.
- Username / display name — used to identify you within the App and to other users.
- BoardGameGeek (BGG) username — used to import your board game collection and preferences from BGG. Your BGG collection data (games owned, ratings, etc.) may be stored to power App features.
Information Collected Automatically
- Location data — with your permission, the App accesses your device’s location to help you discover local game stores near you. Location data is used only for this purpose and is not stored on our servers or shared with third parties. You can disable location access at any time through your device’s Settings.
- Push notification tokens — if you opt in to push notifications, a device token is collected to deliver notifications to your device. You can disable push notifications at any time through your device’s Settings.
Information I Do Not Collect
Board Friends does not collect profile photos, phone numbers, payment information, or precise location history. The App does not track you across other apps or websites.
How I Use Your Information
Your information is used to:
- Create and manage your account.
- Display your profile and game collection to other users of the App.
- Help you find local game stores based on your location.
- Send you push notifications (if you have opted in).
- Maintain and improve the App.
I do not sell your personal information to third parties.
Third-Party Services
Board Friends uses the following third-party services to operate:
- Supabase — provides backend infrastructure including authentication, database storage, and cloud functions. Your account information (email, username, and associated app data) is stored on Supabase’s servers. Supabase’s privacy policy can be found at https://supabase.com/privacy.
- Apple Push Notification Service (APNs) — used to deliver push notifications to your device.
- BoardGameGeek (BGG) — if you choose to link your BGG username, the App retrieves your public collection data from BGG’s XML API. This is read-only and no data is sent to BGG through the App.
These services may process your data in accordance with their own privacy policies.
Data Sharing
I do not share your personal information with third parties for marketing or advertising purposes. Your information may be shared only in the following circumstances:
- With other App users — your username, display name, and game collection are visible to other users as part of the App’s social features.
- With service providers — as described above (Supabase, APNs), solely to operate the App.
- When required by law — if required to comply with applicable law, regulation, or legal process.
Data Retention and Deletion
Your data is retained for as long as you maintain an active account. You may request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by in-app button. Upon deletion, your data will be permanently removed from Supabase within 30 days.
Apple requires that any app offering account creation also provides the ability to delete your account and data. Board Friends complies with this requirement.
Children’s Privacy
Board Friends is not directed at children under the age of 13. I do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If I become aware that a child under 13 has provided personal information, I will delete it promptly. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, please contact me at the email below.
Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data I hold about you.
- Request correction of inaccurate data.
- Request deletion of your data.
- Withdraw consent (e.g., for location access or push notifications) at any time through your device’s Settings.

Security
I take reasonable measures to protect your information, including using Supabase’s built-in authentication and security features (including encrypted connections and row-level security). However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure, and I cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to This Policy
I may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If I make material changes, I will notify you through the App or by other appropriate means. The “Effective Date” at the top of this policy indicates when it was last updated.
